G'Day Blokes and Sheilas!

Well I had an overwhelming amount of email that told me that in these politically correct times I should stick to my guns and call a spade a spade. Hang on that should be a sheila a sheila! A few people pointed out that I did not mean it in an offensive way, and had in fact named my ex-wifes set NetSheila, so people should not take offense at my use of the term. So if you do you know how to unsubscribe. I would hate to see anyone do that though.

So this issue is features traveling in Washington State, although some of the sites are universal. This is because I have been planning a weekend away for my girlfriend, Casey. Washington state has a lot of different options for a short weekend away. From the Cascades to the Pacific Ocean Western Washington especially has a lot to offer. However I had to go with what I know is a favorite for her, and I picked the San Juan Islands. They are so beautiful and are a great place to go camping.

Also in this issue are some great Bargain Bin finds Fred Robinson sent in. Remember I love to hear all your ideas but especially your Bargain Bin finds! Then rounding out this issue is a joke I thought my American readers would find amusing thanks to the opening of the Baseball season.

Have a bonza day!

Fred Robinson informed me of some deals on Adobe programs, at the last place he or I would expect to find cutting edge software.

Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 is for sale at WalMart for 58.62. It goes elsewhere for 99.95.

Adobe Photoshop Album 2.0 is also 39.22 at WalMart.

If you have a bargain you would like to share with everyone let me know.

Definition: Back of Bourke

This weekend I am going a fair way out but not as far as "Back of Bourke"!

Now most Aussie's would have heard of this saying. If you haven't imagine thinking of a place where there is nothing, just flat, dry, hot land. The most remote place you can think of. I think it is sort of an Aussie version of going to the "ends of the Earth".

Either you decide to stay in the shallow end of the pool or you go out in the ocean.

Web Site Review: Wandering Washington

Sometimes the simple things in life are the best. Camping is fun. You can get back to nature. You can put undue emphasis on eating meals made on a two burner stove.

Experience Washington

For someone who isn't a Washington native I feel very at home here. I find the state very similar to my home state of Victoria, Australia. Seattle is like Melbourne and the states share the same natural features as well. The Experience Washington web site makes it easy to find places to go, things to do, find places to stay, and see what events are being held. This site helped me pick the location picked for this weekend. It is one of the San Juan Islands, Lopez to be exact.

Lopez Farm Cottages

I found this great little place last time I was researching locations on the islands. This site really sells itself well without being any sort of masterpiece of design! A picture can save a thousand words, and if that isn't enough the site adds in maps, suggested excursions, the ferry schedule and the goods and services offered on the island.

Mapquest

This is my point to point reference for all of my road trips. I always back it up with a handy atlas, in case I want to take a side trip. Ultimately I would like a GPS that plugs into my laptop. Then I could run some atlas software, just like my Canadian mate Shaun does.

The Weather Channel

The final site used in my grand plan was the Weather Channel site. I had to make sure that the weather was going to be ok before committing to camping!

The Great Australian Joke

I have gone a bit American this week with the start of the baseball season here in the states.

A Nutty Game

A doctor at an asylum decided to take his patients to a baseball game. For weeks in advance, he coached his patients to respond to his commands. When the day of the game arrived, everything seemed to be going well.

As the national anthem started, the doctor yelled, ''Up nuts!''

And the patients complied by standing up. After the anthem he yelled, ''Down nuts!'' And they all sat.

After a home run he yelled, ''Cheer nuts!'' And they all broke into applause and cheers.

Thinking things were going very well, he decided to go get a beer and a hot dog, leaving his assistant in charge.

When he returned there was a riot in progress. Finding his assistant, he asked what happened.

The assistant replied, ''Well everything was fine until a vendor walked by and yelled, ''PEANUTS!''
