G'Day Blokes and Sheilas!

Your a mob of wonderful people! It never ceases to amaze me the positive feedback I get from readers when I write an issue. I really enjoy the feedback. It also helps me get ideas for content for future issues. A couple of this issues topics came directly from readers just like you. So keep that feedback coming ok!

In this issue you will notice I have come up with a couple of new sections. Bargain Bin for sharing with you bargains I have come across on the web. The other Tech Riddles is really just another name for my old occasional Question and Answer section. I am not promising I can always give definitive answers to your questions but I will try, or point you in the right direction. So feel free to contact me with your own questions or riddles.

You also may be amazed at the quick succession of NetBloke issues. I am sending this one today as I will be offline for a week as I am going to see my daughter Hayden in Kentucky. I am really looking forward to it and can't wait to spend some quality time with her.

Happy Holidays and please, please, please make sure you keep safe!

Happy Holidays!

Nathan Allan

Hardware Review: Logitech QuickCam Orbit

Wow, wow, wow! I love this and I am only reading the marketing spiels and reviews!

What I love it this great pan and tilt, face tracking, Logitech QuickCam Orbit.

I have wanted a pan and tilt webcam ever since Sausage Software had one that Canon had leant us from their research labs. In those days I think one was worth a few thousand dollars. Now you can get one for less than $130! Now we all know where my next $116 dollars is going (as I have found somewhere cheaper online!).

There is a great review of the Orbit at Tom's Hardware.

Tech Riddles: DOMAIN

Self proclaimed antique contributor Ben Trotter from Britain was wondering what on earth the DOMAIN variable meant in the Networking preferences of your computer. Now I can only put this in layman's terms (and any experts out there please feel free to correct me if I am wrong) but basically when you network a group of computers at home you have the option to join a WORKGROUP or a DOMAIN. From what I understand if you have a DOMAIN set up on a server within your network it will allow your network administrator have a more centralized base for controlling user accounts that log in to the DOMAIN.

If you have a Tech Riddle for me or better answer for this Tech Riddle, let me know.

Bargain Bin: Wireless Router and PC Card

Another special deal I have seen at PC Mall. This wireless router even offers VPN capabilities! At $37.99 after rebate ($77.99 before rebate) it is a great deal. There is also a Wireless PC Card for laptops which is free after rebates. However one drawback is PC Mall's insane shipping costs! However right now they do offer a rebate on that too for orders over $25.

If you see a bargain and would like me to share it with all the other blokes and sheilas that read the newsletter please let me know. If you know of an Australian based site that offers regular amazing deals let me know about that too! All you have to do is use my contact form.

Web Site Review: Christmas in Australia

Jim Harris from Leitchfield, Kentucky had this great suggestion for this Australian Christmas site.

It is a great site that will illustrate to those of you in the northern hemisphere just how different Christmas in Australia is. For starters it is summer time but there are a lot of other subtle differences you can read about on this site. My friends in the USA still can't believe in Oz we all run around in our shorts and have barbeques for Christmas Dinner!

Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.

The Great Australian Joke

Douglas Paterson thought I would like this joke, and I did, so I am sharing it with you all!

An elderly man in Adelaide calls his son in Sydney on Christmas Eve and says: "I hate to ruin your day, but I have to tell you that your mother and I are divorcing; 45 years of misery is enough."

"Dad, what are you talking about?" the son screams.

"We can't stand the sight of each other any longer," the old man says. "We're sick of each other, and I'm sick of talking about this, so you call your sister in Brisbane and tell her." And he hangs up.

Frantic, the son calls his sister, who explodes on the phone. "Like heck they're getting divorced," she shouts. "I'll take care of this." She calls her dad immediately, and screams at the old man, "You are NOT getting divorced! Don't do a single thing until I get there. I'm calling my brother back, and we'll both be there tomorrow. Until then, don't do a thing, DO YOU HEAR ME?" and hangs up.

The old man hangs up his phone and turns to his wife. "Okay," he says, "they're coming for Christmas, and paying their own airfares."
