G'day!

Remember me? I am the guy that writes NetBloke, Nathan of course! It has been a long two weeks or so since I last got out an issue. You will have to excuse me as I have been pressed for time. Let me give you the short version of my adventures over the past couple of weeks.

I had to go out to San Francisco and move Sausage's servers. I planned for it. Got everyone in place. Moved the servers. Tried to get them back online though and it was a nightmare! The crux of the story is a week later everything was working as it should again. We had limited services running from day one though so not all was lost. However a week is like an eternity when your business isn't able to function as normal. Needless to say that everything is working properly and I can sleep better now!

Did you know you can occasionally here me on the radio? Live if you are in Des Moines or Iowa and on the web streaming if not (soon to be a live stream). We take questions and the like and I am handling the phones. The show is Gnome Radio (a spin off from the Chris Pirillo Show). It is a bit of fun we get to have on a Sunday night and if you listen in you may just learn a thing or two. Here are the details:

Station: KRNT 1350AM Des Moines
Time: Sunday Nights from 7 to 9 pm CST
Call in number: 515 244 1350
On the Web: http://www.gnomeradio.com

Anyway it would be nice to hear from any of you that have a question!

Seeya mate!

Defintion

She'll be right mate!

That's what the guys in Australia have been saying about the somewhat stressful days that come with the set-up of a new company.

Yes hopefully in a week or so everything with the new company will be set-up and under our control. Then we will be able to do some exciting things, and try and make a difference in the webmaster world!

Internet Tip

This is my first Christmas away from family and distance is a bugger of a thing.

My solution is getting online with the webcam running and talking to friends and family using Microsoft Netmeeting. You can grab a webcam now for less than $50 and it should be a decent one.

So how about as an early Christmas present you set-up yourself and a loved one, who cannot be there with you, with a webcam?

As a bonus over the Web you don't have to eat your in-laws cooking or get a sloppy kiss from Aunty Mavis!

Web Site Review

I am sure you are already sick of Christmas Shopping. The crowds never cease and it is just a pain in the butt getting a car park. I know you blokes out there just want to get it over with and get back to the cricket or football.

Here is a solution that will save you money and you won't have to leave the comfort of your keyboard. Ebates. Ebates is good. Ebates will send you rebates checks from popular online retailers and the online versions of bricks and mortar stores! Normally rebates range from two to ten percent of your purchase price.

My wife and I have bought a few smaller items through them and have received a few bucks here and there in rebates. Nothing to sing about too loudly, but enough to go and get a super-sized number one at McDonalds and still have change!

Your Questions

Do you have a good last minute online retailer to share with everyone? If so send in the site and I will let everyone in on it next issue!

Just email me with your answers at netbloke@netbloke.com

Answer

Last issue I asked this question, "This issue I would love to know what you think is the single best thing about being on the Internet. Personally I think it is access to information. What do you think?"

I received a couple of dozen replies or so. The common answer was the same as my reason. The instant and ready access to a wealth of information, from the comfort of your own home.

I am glad to see that a lot of you are using the net to broaden your minds. There is just so much to learn and experience out there that we could not possibly get around to seeing it all in our lifetime without such an information resource!

The Great Australian Joke

I thought this was appropriate for my current frame of mind!

How To Handle Stress

Jam tiny marshmallows up your nose and try to sneeze them out.

Use your MasterCard to pay your VISA bill.

Pop some popcorn without putting the lid on.

When someone says, "Have a nice day!", tell them you have other plans.

During your next meeting, sneeze and then loudly suck the plegm back down your throat.

Find out what a frog in a blender really looks like.

Make a list of things you have already done.

Dance naked in front of pets.

Put your toddler's clothes on backwards and send him off to pre-school as if nothing were wrong.

Thumb through "National Geographic" and draw underwear on the natives.

Go shopping. Buy everything. Sweat in them. Return them the next day.

Drive to work in reverse.

Read the dictionary backwards and look for subliminal messages.

Start a nasty rumor and see if you recognize it when it gets back to you.

Bill your doctor for the time you spent in his waiting room.
