G'day!

I really love writing this newsletter, and I really hope you all like receiving it. Based on your feedback I am not doing too bad. It looks like it is harder than I thought to get out a quality issue out every week. However I will keep on trying.

Since my last issue on Australian Rules Football, I have listened to my beloved Bombers loose to the Brisbane Bears, um I mean the Brisbane Lions (Aussie's will get that one). Brisbane use to be the team I would barrack for when the Bombers were not playing. On a Sunday afternoon you could always see them hack there way around Queensland trying not to be beaten by too much. However, now they are just too good. Looks like I will have to swap my secondary allegiance to some other pathetic team.

I am going to hold over the online computer purchasing issue (for want of a better name). I have a lot to do in the next few days. Some of it is top secret, some of it is helping my friends at Lockergnome make Gnomedex successful, and some of it is to do with the exciting new release I have of HotDog Professional (remember my day job?). Go to http://www.sausagetools.com for the latest release. It is well worth it if you are into building Web sites professionally, or just as a hobby.

At Gnomedex it looks like I will be your volunteer bus driver. So if you spot me please say hi. If your not going and live locally in Des Moines have a look at what is on offer at http://www.gnomedex.com . It is well worth the price of admission and I know there are going to be lots of cool giveaways.

My trip to San Francisco with Gretchen was amazing. However I don't know if I will do any last minute volunteering for road trips for a while! No offence but Interstate 80 isn't exactly the most exciting road I have driven.

San Francisco is a great city. I find it similar to my hometown of Melbourne in so many ways. I took a trip to the Napa Valley, hung out with my good friends, and did the rounds of my dot com contacts.

So this issue I will point out some things I saw and found out about, while on my trip.

So until next week seeya later!

Definition

Coldie

A cold glass, bottle or can of beer. Commonly requested by Aussie male to barman, wife (on return from work) or person in charge of beer supply.

After a few of the nights on the way to San Francisco and even her in Des Moines, the official dictionary definition of cold would say ' see Wyoming, Iowa, Nebraska'. Heck it is only early fall too! What have I committed myself into?

Internet Tip

If you are going to any major city I strongly advise you to check out this site to get the lowdown on where to eat (lets think past fast food!), what to do, and where to stay. Citysearch covers most large US cities. For my Aussie readers it also has a good grasp on a lot of Australian cities too. International travelers should use this site before taking on a city they are traveling to. Citysearch's editors are normally locals and therefore can give you some insight into the culture of a city where travel brochures do not.

Software Review

ePrompter

I am featuring this program as I use and I got to have lunch with part of the ePrompter team while in San Francisco. Craig and Keith treated me to a memorable lunch and the most exquisite flourless chocolate cake ever!

Now ePrompter is a program you can let set in your system tray and check all your email accounts. It checks all your web based email (without having to open a web browser!) and even your POP3 email.

I t is really handy if you have various hotmail, yahoo or other web based email accounts that you would like to check but do not have time to log in and out of the various web sites to do so. I use my web email accounts when I sign up for newsletters and memberships to Web sites I do not trust. In the end I always end up getting spam from these sites so instead of it all ending up on my computer it goes directly to my hotmail accounts.

You can even have ePrompter as your screensaver, which will show you at a glance if you have email in particular accounts.

Some insider information, the guys tell me that there upcoming version is going to be even more slick and friendly to use! Definitely worth checking this program out and giving it a whirl!

The Great Australian Joke

Woman races home, screeches to a stop in the driveway, runs into the house yelling "Pack your bags, Ed, I just won the lottery - one million dollars!"

Ed says, "Wow, are you kidding me? That's terrific! Should I pack beach clothes or mountain clothes?"

She says, "Doesn't matter to me - just get the hell out!"
