G'day!

Well isn't today just peachy? Love is in the air! The sky is blue the roses smell....Struth! You didn't forget to get your loved one a Valentines Day gift did you?

Well I think I can help save the day. Just follow these simple instructions.

1. Go to Blue Mountain, where you will find a selection of ecards for your loved one.

2. Tell your loved one, that the silly dot com you ordered the pressie from must not have very high standards in delivery (a little white lie shouldn't hurt).

3. Check out my Web site Review, as I have included a couple of online retailers that will be able to help you out with a gift.

Now that you are feeling relieved that this isn't the worst thing you have ever forgot, let me thank everyone for their kind comments on the first issue of NetBloke!

You may notice I have a ISSN number now. Well after the first issue I was issued one, which means that this publication will now be archived for one and all to read in the years to come.

Anyway I hope you enjoy this issue. I think you should all start telling your friends how wonderful it is!

Internet Tip

Do you ever get the urge to throw away your mouse for a minute or two? If you get sick of using your mouse to navigate a Web site you can always use ALT + RIGHT ARROW to go forwards a page and ALT + LEFT ARROW to go back a page.

This is handy when you have been filling out a form, or simply don't have your hand resting on your mouse!

Web Site Review: Valentine's Day Suggestions

I hear you! I hear your cries of desperation. Although you won’t get their gifts delivered on time here are my Web site suggestions for Valentines Day.

If you are based in Australia you can’t go past Wishlist.com.au. There is also an American based equivalent at Wishlist.com although it doesn’t have the same great features that the Australian version does. You have a wide variety including flowers, chocolates and the mandatory lingerie.

If you are looking for something a bit saucy you can’t go past Frederick’s of Hollywood, where you are sure to find something risque for your boyfriend or girlfriend.

If you are looking for something more general you can’t go past Amazon.com. This online retailer has just about anything you could ever desire!

Well I hope that gets you out of a pickle!

Definition: Goodonya

Goodonya is an expression used to voice approval or encouragement. It can be used in both a positive or negative way. For example:

Negative: Goodonya! You backed over the cat in the ute!

Positive: Goodonya mate!

For those Americans amongst you a Ute is a truck, like a F100 (Gosh a bonus definition I must be on a roll!).

Tech Riddle

Goodonya! No one sent in a question. Which seeing there are only a handful of people receiving the NetBloke newsletter so far isn’t surprising! So I thought I would answer a question that I am often asked.

What sort of Internet connection do you recommend?

Reply:
Well this is a bit curly. It comes down to what is available in your area , cost and how much you think you will be online.

Personally I think a permanent connection, such as Cable or DSL is the go. It may cost a bit more but think of the real costs of dialup connections. Firstly you tie up the phone line, or you need a second line (more cost!). Secondly the speed is not brilliant so you cannot surf the Web or download files quickly, hence you waste your time. Also think of the convenience of being able to go to the computer and search for a recipe or find a telephone number quickly. With dialup you have wait to connect, logon to your provider, oh it drags on!

Of course you may have no choice but dialup (I’m sorry). If so I would recommend if you’re going to make the most of your connection to get a provider that allows you unlimited time and download, and whack in a second phone line.

The Great Australian Joke

An Australian was driving through the New Zealand countryside, when he saw a man behind some bushes with a sheep. He yelled out to the man, "In Australia we shear our sheep!”

The man behind the bushes yelled back, "Well I'm not sharing this one with anyone!
